Trzecia, zamykająca całość edycji część Wspomnień Józefa Bispinga prowadzi czytelnika od dramatycznej ucieczki z Polski w roku 1947 ku doświadczeniu emigracji: najpierw szwedzkiej (1947–1950), a następnie kanadyjskiej (1950–1994). To opowieść o mozolnym „urządzaniu się” w wolnym świecie – o pracy, nauce języka, pierwszych krokach w nowej rzeczywistości oraz o budowaniu życia rodzinnego i pozycji w środowiskach polonijnych Montrealu i Quebecu. Ten tom czyta się pełniej, mając w pamięci dwa poprzednie: kresowy świat dzieciństwa i młodości autora (Strubnica i „utracony świat” ziemiańskiego gospodarowania) oraz jego wojenne i konspiracyjne doświadczenia – od kampanii 1939 r. (110 pułk ułanów) i oddziału mjr. „Hubala”, przez okupację w Zagórkach, służbę w AK i powojenną działalność w WiN, aż po konieczność ratunku przed UB.

Bisping ma wyjątkowy dar obserwacji i opowiadania: plastycznie odtwarza sytuacje, ludzi i obyczaje, a zarazem konsekwentnie pokazuje szerszy kontekst przemian społecznych i politycznych.

Wydanie ma charakter krytyczny: tom opatrzono przypisami, a całość uzupełniają aneksy źródłowe, tablice genealogiczne oraz indeksy – dzięki czemu Wspomnienia pozostają nie tylko lekturą, lecz także rzetelnym materiałem dla badaczy dziejów polskiego wychodźstwa po II wojnie światowej.

The third and final part of Józef Bisping’s Memoirs leads the reader from his dramatic escape from Poland in 1947 to the experience of exile: first in Sweden (1947–1950), and then in Canada (1950–1994). It is a story of the arduous process of “settling in” within the free world—of work, learning a new language, first steps in an unfamiliar reality, and the building of family life and a position within the Polish émigré communities of Montreal and Quebec.

This volume is read more fully when one recalls the two preceding parts: the Borderland world of the author’s childhood and youth (Strubnica and the “lost world” of landed estate management), as well as his wartime and underground experiences—from the 1939 campaign (the 110th Uhlan Regiment) and service in Major “Hubal’s” unit, through the occupation period in Zagórki, service in the Home Army (AK), and postwar activity in WiN, to the necessity of escaping the communist security police (UB).

Bisping possesses an exceptional gift for observation and narration: he vividly recreates situations, people, and customs, while consistently situating them within the broader context of social and political transformations.

This is a critical edition: the volume is furnished with scholarly annotations, and the whole is supplemented with documentary appendices, genealogical tables, and indexes. As a result, the Memoirs remain not only an engaging narrative but also a reliable source for researchers of the history of Polish emigration after the Second World War.

La troisième et dernière partie des Mémoires de Józef Bisping conduit le lecteur de son évasion dramatique de Pologne en 1947 à l’expérience de l’exil : d’abord en Suède (1947–1950), puis au Canada (1950–1994). C’est le récit d’une installation laborieuse dans le monde libre — travail, apprentissage de la langue, premiers pas dans une réalité nouvelle, construction d’une vie familiale et affirmation d’une position au sein des milieux polonais de Montréal et du Québec.

Ce volume se lit plus pleinement à la lumière des deux précédents : le monde des confins orientaux de l’enfance et de la jeunesse de l’auteur (Strubnica et le « monde perdu » de la gestion d’un domaine terrien), ainsi que ses expériences de guerre et de clandestinité — de la campagne de 1939 (110e régiment de uhlans) et du détachement du major « Hubal », à l’occupation à Zagórki, au service dans l’Armia Krajowa (AK), à l’activité d’après-guerre au sein de WiN, jusqu’à la nécessité d’échapper à la police politique communiste (UB).

Bisping possède un don remarquable d’observation et de narration : il restitue avec vivacité les situations, les personnages et les mœurs, tout en inscrivant constamment son récit dans le contexte plus large des transformations sociales et politiques.

L’édition a un caractère critique : le volume est pourvu de notes explicatives, et l’ensemble est complété par des annexes documentaires, des tableaux généalogiques et des index. Ainsi, les Mémoires constituent non seulement une lecture captivante, mais aussi un matériau fiable pour les chercheurs travaillant sur l’histoire de l’émigration polonaise après la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
